The Mississippi Supreme Court may hear the appeal of a man faced to pay child support on a daughter he never knew existed. The child, now 4, thought she was the daughter of her mothers now ex-husband, as did the ex-husband. When the ex-husband asserted his right to custody and visitation during divorce proceedings, the mother told him that she did not believe he was the father. Paternity tests were administered and the biological father was located. Even though the ex-husband offered to take full parental responsibility for the child, the court ruled he had no legal standing to request custody or visitation and forced to biological father to begin paying child support.
